Scarlett Johansson Movie Bio

SCARLETT JOHANSSON
Birthdate/place: November 22, 1984 in New York, NY
Claim to Fame: As Grace MacLean in Robert Redford's Horse Whisperer (1998)

Johansson was ranked #1 on Entertainment Weekly's '30 Under 30' the actress list of 2008 and #2 on the Maxim magazine Hot 100 of 2008 list.
Johansson who was born and raised "with little money" in New York began acting as a child when her mom started taking her to auditions. Her film debut was in North (1994), but she gained widespread recognition in her role in Horse Whisperer (1998). Following her success in this film she starred in many other films including Ghost World (2001), Lost in Translation (2003), and Girl with a Pearl Earring (2003). Shortly after Lost in Translation (2003) was released, she said she had a connection to older men and couldn't see herself dating anyone under 30. True to her word, she had a relationship with actor Benicio Del Toro, who is 17 years her senior.
In 2003, she was nominated for two Golden Globes, one for drama (Girl with a Pearl Earring (2003)) and one for comedy (Lost in Translation (2003)). Johansson's next role was in The Island (2005) which earned weak reviews from U.S. critics. Her next role was in Woody Allen's Match Point (2005) and she was nominated again for a Golden Globe.
